Prompt #18

If you wish to do this as a spontaneous exercise, don't look at the word until you're ready to write (I recommend having Write or Die open in another tab). If you're going to mull over the word and write later, peek away.

Once you've completed your ficlet, please either comment here, or post a link to it, if you're posting on your own journal. Feel free to reference the community or number of the prompt in your outside posts, but if you use the actual word, please put it under a cut to avoid spoiling others, should they want to write spontaneously.

Today's word is: obligation

Fandom: Legend of Zelda
Characters: Link and Ghost!Sheik
AN: I'll write a full story in under 15min. one day

When he learned the truth, he had not idea what to do.

For so long he was lied to. Deceived by the very people that he most trusted.

"They told me that you were not real."

The ghostly spectre stared at the young man. "I told them too."

"Why?" Link asks, very confused and hurt.

"It was the only way for you to continue your duty."

"My duty. Everything about you was about duty.

The ghost moves from his place from the doorway to right beside Link. "Are you saying that afterwards you would have continued. Once you found out where and when I had died, you would have been able to go defeat Ganon."

Link turns his head and silently stares at the ghostly pictures.

"That is why I asked for you to learn afterwards. Then you would have been allowed the grief that you desperately needed."

"Why are you so sad, anyways Hero. You are the the Hero of Time and Zelda did offer you the gift of your lost years."

" I really don't want them."

Sheik is silent for a moment before and a realization hits. "Going back would be a good thing."

"Now it won't, she told me that I wouldn't remember. That I'd forget all that I'd done and all the people I'd met."

"Yes." Sheik softly agrees, "but then you could start over."

"Link." The ghost calls out.

"Seven years ago, I lived in a little town called Parupa, just outside of Termina. My father was the mayor of that town."

Walking out of the Temple of Shadows, Link couldn't help the sudden eagerness in his step.

Somebody Needed to Say It

I cannot stand being obligated to buy people birthday presents.
I just had an argument about that today (its my daughter's birthday) with my in-laws.

Or a better example: I hate Christmas in our office. It's the reason I absolutely abhor the season these days. I'm obligated to participate in a secret santa, a white elephant gift exchange AND a cookie exchange. And this despite the fact that I'm pagan and have announced so since I arrived in this office.

While I share your views, I really can't talk too bad about the holiday since I'm a caterer and the bulk of my business is during this time (I do 8x more business during the end of the year). I'm usually seen as the Grinch because I don't allow SS in my shop.

I don't believe the people who inhabited those bodies are hanging around
Same. My family is Cajun and we really don't have the big, weepy thing (actually we have a BBQ) and everyone looks at me weird when I tell them that I don't want a funeral and just want to be cremated.

To your comment on fandom, for me, it actually taught me to talk louder, because no matter how weird/differing my opinion is, there are a few somebodies who thinks like I do unless you into one of the really bad ones like Naruto (where people literally go for the jugular) or Twilight (where they throw acid in a person's face).

I still prefer slash; my OTPs will forever be slash. I get off on reading/writing two men together.
Same for me.

And to your comment about women, I share that too. To be fair, my hatred (and yes I feel that strongly) towards many of the girls in my fandoms is they are either too perfect, too built up in fandom (canon vs. fanon wars suck), or too annoying (ex: loud brat who picks on/beats up main character, large breasted idiot, robotic bookworm). Its not the usual slasher hatred, i.e. she ruins it for my OTP.
